A Taxonomy of Armchair thinkers

Note : a) Social Networking implies Twitter, nothing else.

             b) Doing nothing and Armchair thinking are entirely different (to adapt Jackie Chan from the latest version of Karate Kid).

The advent of social networking brought along certain boons and banes. I m not gonna blah blah about all the virtues and vices, but i ve chose to select one particular aspect that I consider an incredible virtue of social networking, ArmChair Thinkers.

The sheer volume and coercive habit (read as ultrablading and Baiting) of giving tidbits information and unsolicited opinions and advice,is quite frankly overwhelming and irritating. Anyone with a narrower horizon, yet excited about but also a demanding 2nd life as a graduate student, such as yours truly would find it very difficult to absorb. But personally I am happy that Social networking has become a much needed addiction for me. It takes away chunks of my time these days, and made me aware of the need for multi-tasking (thank god for multiple tabs and workspaces on ubuntu and the alt-tab key) and smart work with effective time management. So as much as i falter, i believe i am making progress.

The one aspect that i truly respect and that which feeds my addiction to social networking is the enormous contribution to the opinion pool by Arm Chair thinkers. let me first define Arm Chair thinkers.

“All these fellows who ve worked their asses of initially to get bumper chaapaas (read as degrees) and made sure that they lead well settled lives, that enables them to develop a taste and a flair for proffering humorous, sensible and driving the point home opinions, with retweetabilty and compliment earning index that would totally #pwn BSE (not now, but even on the uppish days), on literally everything the universe can collectively throw at them, all of this within 140 characters can be collectively called Arm Chair Thinkers”

Among Arm Chair thinkers there are several species and within them many many subspecies, but i ll stick to a few which i ve managed to tag in the limited exposure i ve had to social networking.

Pun-dits – Those who are addicted to making puns (good bad and the ugly, but they all end up good) on anything, and i mean literally anything. Opunions galore.

Word players – People that could solve the Hindu Crossword during the 5 min bed coffee, transmorgriry into anagramming virtuosos that totally #PWN others at scrabble.

Biographers and Blogherds – These guys are my personal favorite, even simple events at home get transformed through elegant narrations, and make us like them more. Crystal meth could be less addictive. I use blogherds as these are the shepherds that draw the sheep (readers) into their pen through sheer creativity in narration, and PGW were he alive would have a word or two to say on how all his writings have instilled something or the other in the future generation.

Bot makers – One good thing from programming apart from the collosal IT opportunities and subsequent pink slipping and bench warming is that, there are people that can make bots to track and aptly reply to anything with a key word/phrase in it. Figuring out how to elicit a response from these bots is simply worth living your life for. Remember the search for the key maker in Matrix Reloaded, well I bet several ppl search for answers from the bot makers.  Ravi Shastri loves these guys for making him look cooler than he is, but Gounder lives through these guys. (BTW Gounder is coming back to movies)

LOL lers – These people with their tremondous width and wit, create many a stomach pain induced by uncontrollable laughter, and have caused even people that RT them habitually to become famous (Ok noticed) of course over a period of time. Kalmadi would love to see them dead, if they refused his offer of being his PR Man.

MAS sers – These guys have huge following and have built their banks on Mutual Admiration Syndrome, yet always live up to the mark by propagating sensible, useful and important information in their own inimitable way. These people may be excessively worried about political neutrality, and have a zero tolerance policy to BS and Plagiarism. These ar the guys you ought to build lists with, if you are serious about using social networking constructively. They may reek of a “Holier than Thou” Complex”, which may hurt you sometimes. but always remember they would be right 9.5 times out of10 and they mean no ill.  Never mess with these guys.

I m sure there are many more categories, and sub species.. and in the interests of keeping it short and not wrecking a decent enough topic with blah blah I will leave it to your imagination, and expanded proficiencies.

On Anna’s Fast – Big Fat Rant

Author’s Disclaimer : (a) I have not yet done anything useful for any part of the society, other than not farting at public places and never throwing away a wrapper on the road, and generally i try not to be a nuisance.

(b)As someone that refused to pay a bribe for both my Drivers license and my Passport, and for all the nagging i ve done my father to file tax returns promptly and regularly to pad the dockets of Kalmadi, Raja et al.  as someone that has a profound dislike for Fraudulent Tax consultants and Chartered Accountants, and Swiss Banks that help in guarding all the loot, I feel i have earned the right to talk about corruption.

All this talk over Anna Hazare and Lokpal have been flooding all my social network forums, and the worst thing possible happened yesterday.. A bloody NRI from California, who supported IAC’s protest outside the UN, advised me on twitter to fulfill my social responsibility and that what is needed is to quote this wonderful hypocrite sitting in California, who thought he d convinced me to do something for my country, “laws that deliver swift, fair n severe punishment for those who steal my tax money, money that is meant for the poor, cntry, and join Anna Hazare”.

Social networking forums and the blogosphere are also doing their part very well providing all the information one can eat up.

Why should we not for one moment just STFU, Clear our minds of all this E Waste and tailored content and try to think if this is what we want and is this how we want it. We reflect on so many trivial things Why should we not reflect on our future in this great country and the current state of affairs in governance. If you are the type that goes “Why should i care?”.. Then Congratulations I sincerely wish you well.

Okay I patiently tolerated Mr. Chetan Bhagat when he also had his say on corruption. I must say though that IMO he has toned down his columns, probably fearing some form of Repercussion. he is also after all a Pullakutti kaaran and needs to continue writing oh so predicatble tales selling for 59 Rupees and retain the Bestselling author and columnist tag. I even read stuff written by Shri Subramaniam Swamy on the need for Viraat hindus to plug the corruption. BTW his book on the 2G spectrum case is a good read, although bewarned too much of reiteration and a good dose of megalomania is there.

I fully realize and am aware of the contribution that Anna Hazare has made to the cause of corruption and in general to Relgaon-Siddhi, his village in Maharashtra. I acknowledge that He is definitely a great person, better than me for sure, absolutely no disputing that. But comparing him to Gandhiji or even likening him to a modern day Gandhi and giving him this level of adulation makes my blood boil. His appearance on Saregama paa Little Champs and all the talk on how we should recall the contribution of people that helped us gain independence and his calling MMS and the Parliamentary system a joke.. Saar all this is old stuff, We know all this.. Lets only talk of what needs to be done.. and how it should be done..  Right here .. Right Now.

This present scenario was exactly what Dr. B.R. Ambedkar had warned us about while concluding the proceedings of the constituent Assembly.  he urged his compatriots to “abandon the bloody methods of revolution”. In the circumstances of colonial rule, there were grounds for taking to the streets to protest, and even perhaps to use violence or nonviolent struggles. But with the coming of a free, sovereign and democratic republic, wrote Ambedkar, “there can be no justification for these unconstitutional methods. These methods are nothing but the Grammar of Anarchy and the sooner they are abandoned, the better for us.”There was “nothing wrong”, said Ambedkar, “in being grateful to great men who have rendered life-long services to the country. But there are limits to gratefulness”. His worry was that in India, “bhakti or what may be called the path of devotion or hero-worship, plays a part in its politics unequalled in magnitude by the part it plays in the politics of any other country in the world. Bhakti in religion may be a road to the salvation of the soul. But in politics, bhakti or hero-worship is a sure road to degradation and to eventual dictatorship.” After this and Anna’s withdrawal of the fast the first time around I almost felt Chidambaram and the PM were right when he said this and that.

Anna Hazare may be a man of action, of strong character, and even a very great leader, but all said and done he is also an ordinary citizen like you and me of this wonderful dominion. The respect and amount of adulation and major league backing and coverage from the media that he is getting now seems to shock me. I always thought the media in this country was mostly selfish, enormously arrogant, and blatantly biased. But come Anna Hazare, a simple unassuming man, Major league coverage. How do TRP’s work with respect to Civil and Social Responsibilities can be potentially researched here. They completely ignored this other great man that actually fasted for 114 days and died fully knowing he is fighting a losing battle. My point is that We the people are no different from Anna or Baba Ramdev and we need to also take a decisive stand on the issue of corruption and the way the government is making a mockery out of anti-corruption law.

This choice is about what is right and what is wrong, and the line of distinction is as broad as it can get. And Anna merely striking a deal amidst his fast, literally with the devil (read as Kapil Sibal) was simply unacceptable. What can be construed as involvement with Parliamentary committee was simply Drinking tea and eating biscuits at Government cost. and if (lets leave Anna out for the moment and give him the Bhola (naive and simple man) tag) someone so deep in Government affairs as kejriwal or Shanti and Prashant Bhushan, fell for the oldest trick in the Standard Operating Procedure of Indian Politics (Stall .. Stall more.. Put it away) .. Shame on you.. you simply do not deserve the peoples full backing.  The same applies to MMS and the rather shameless Congress party  and every opportunistic bastard (parson the language for my current state of mind is this) trying to tap into human misery and never works to get people out of this RUT.

The Pizza and burger eating class, the cool dudes and dudettes that hit the pubs and discos regularly, everyone seems to say Anna is great and he is the true leader in the fight against corruption, and you know what..  they may be right. Nobody else has seemed to take up this issue with this vigor, which as MMS says, needs the cooperation and involvement of each and every citizen of this country. Easy for him to say, because he does not talk much and can take abuse.

But the truth According to MMS is that, our (The peoples) role must beto keep silent and watch as people take away what is remaining of the will to fight corruption away and make a joke out of it. I do not know whether MMS is corrupt, nor do i think he is a poor Prime minister. We are lucky to have a good head of state, one that is respected world wide as a great Scholar. His silence on the face of an issue as grave as 2G or CWG is as intriguing to me as my other major question in current politics “Is Rahul Gandhi gay?”. How can someone so well read sit and take all this abuse..  all of this for what?? Sonia Gandhi giving into coalition pressure, and appointing incompetent nincompoops as Cabinet Ministers. (Simply for an eg. MK Azhagiri is the minister for Chemical and Fertilizers, Ever since that I have slightly begun to regret taking up Chemical Engineering as my major.) . The PM’s  silence makes me think whether he might actually have his hand in the pie. How can he listen to such toxic speeches made!!, how can he let someone as shady as Sharad Pawar continue in the cabinet? To be under the assumption (read as presenting a luxurious vacation at Tihar with Yoga and Excercise and access to home cooked food and access to books and newspapers and regular Cups of Tea with Jailers) that maybe Kalmadi or Kanimozhi or Raja are innocent, and acted in the interests of our country is utterly ludicrous.

Narendra Shenoy a celebrity in the blogosphere had written wonderfully about this in an aptly named post. How simple is it to establish guilt and how fucking long will it take, for an agency as big as the CBI.. Paeru beddha Paeru.. CBI.. Content bureau of investigation.. they never want to get to the truth. All the goof ups of the CBI if chronicled will definitely be as large as the constitution. 1700 pages of 2G Chargesheet .. Is this unprecedented amount of BS really necessary..Will a  Simple yes he is guilty.. We found this.. you should punish him not serve the purpose??.

I guess this is were a special Lokpal would come handy. But Lokpal or Jokpal .. unless We the people decide that we will not give or take bribes.. nothing will happen.. Lokpal will only serve to add on to the skill set of lawyers, and will just be another bleak chapter in India after Gandhi and Nehru.

Only the Delhi Special CBI court has nailed Kalmadi very well. Otherwise he is practically enjoying himself, even getting health check ups at AIIMS, and claiming Dementia of heart. But I have to honestly admit .. I love the guy.. Where would all the cool folks of twitter like @rameshsrivats @diogeneb @krishashok @raytida @shenoyn @oldmonkMGM @vishal_c @techrsr @maxdavici (shabbaa .. mudiyala .. too many cool people on twitter) get their daily humor quotes and Anagrams and really funny links and tumblrs.

The executive and Legislature of this country seem to be competing for the “Who’s more incompetent!” title.. and this, in a country where people like Nehru and Gandhi have set standards for the entire world to follow is just so depressing.

The Supreme Court seems to be doing a great job, with respect to dictating terms to the Government, but hey SC justices can be appointed by the Government, just like presidents. But folks Lokpal or Jokpal one thing must always be remembered the unique thing about truth is that it will always eventually come out loud and clear.

This i say even with knowledge that this is Kaliyug :) in thamizh this is “தர்மத்தின் வாழ்வு தனை சூது கவ்வும் ஆனால் இறுதியில்  தர்மமே வெல்லும்”

So whether you help Anna or not.. it does not matter.. What matters is whether you want to help yourself and the man next to you, and be part of the chain reaction that will eventually reduce the cancer of corruption in this great country.  Fast ! Dont Fast it does’nt matter.. Pick a side on the issue of corruption and Pl take a Stand. This is a wonderful occasion to start of, what with this being the 65th independence day, and MMS has stood in the rain and said this.

Cheers (I know !! Its a Dry Day but you should ve stocked up :) )

IPL IV – The Final Clash

2 months is quite a long time.Ironically the longest duration of the tournament goes to the shortest version of the game. Esp when you have just suffered 40 plus days of intense cricket..  One thing that BCCI ought to get drilled into its thick skull is that players cannot recuperate at the rate of Wolverine.. The human body, although designed perfectly has wear and tear. However i ll stop cribbing here and go on to what this post was intended for.. CSK Vs RCB.. hmmm .. A Toughie..

Heart says CSK head says RCB..

Stats say CSK but the player card (read – Chris Gayle) says RCB..

Srinivasan says CSK.. there is nothing to counter that on the other side for in Cricket circle Srinivasan > All Franchise owners .. Srinivasan < Shor chor Sharad Pawar only.

I hate quoting Ravi shastri but in the end it should be cricket that won.. but these 2 months have reduced the indian team from a dominatrix to a retired hurtrix.. WTF !!! .. How long will you keep them playing.. Yes u pay them a LOT.. but they are bloody human beings..  Dont make a tour schedule that ll for sure give WI some more confidence and set tongues wagging. and Why TF did gambhir so in concealing an injury.. is keeping SRK happy > Playing for India and leading it.. Good thing i ve always hated you for your bouts of  silly behavior Attribute to excessive testosterone.. but yes u blew it kiddo.

Todays Final .. Kaazhiyur Narayanan (the jaya TV guy- Wahi Roz ka Sun sign predictor)  has predicted a rain interrupted match in which Dhoni score winning runs with a Sixer #likeaboss :) but given that IPL4 has not had a single tied game my head goes to an RCB win. and more rightly b’lore deserve to win, simply for the sneaky buying and quick bringing Gayle at the right time and for introducing an eyesore of a jersey .. WTF were you on Sid?  The red and gold combine is gr8.. let it be.. . Plus We all owe kingfisher for all the good times that were celebrated along with CSK and Team India Wins :-) Let us Wait and Watch.. May the Deserving Win :) You know i mean CSK.. Vartaa

Whats new today – 24 May 2011

Introspection is a good thing.. it does help one out.. esp when one seems caught in the whirlwind of everyday life and its blade aspects and has reached the point where one asks “Hey !!! Ennada Pudungara Lifela??” . My parents celebrated their 25th Wedding anniversary on the 22nd of this month. This is something rather phenomenal.. Given that i inherit the oh so cute bull headedness, slowly fading yet surfacing at the wrong hour Chauvinism and Rage and also this attitude for looking back on past mistakes (from time to time) and marking them up and in all glory the unique ability to detect opportunities where i could commit the same mistake and do it even better this time around from my dad.. And the Edhayum thaangum valimai and the wipe it off and move on attitude from my mother. Yes i am a rather Complex person and genetics is impossible to beat.. I will not deny that whatever i am today is only due to the single minded efforts of two wonderful people in raising me.

Although my mom is always very very proud that I have been a good child.. In fact only yesterday she said that i am proud to have raised a child with good moral values and you have no idea how little that made me feel.. I sat up all night  drowning my thoughts  in my guilt and by 4 AM realised there simply was no point. I mean how hard can it be to live your life on your own terms!! You guys have got to believe me when i say it takes a lot to do that.  There has been a home Akshay and an Away Akshay at least for the past 7 years.. Both completely different yet having so much in common. The biggest burden being Consciousness and an overwhelming sense of guilt.

I definitely belong to the “Ellaathiyum kotti theekara” type (meaning i simply do not restrain myself from giving my opinion or telling anything that comes to my mind .. Excepting when my dad s visibly angry or my mom s extremely upset over something and my Advisors in Research).. off late i feel that I may have erred a lot in the 24 years.. i do not regret it.. but i accept and acknowledge that i missed out on numerous opportunities through sheer bullheadedness and never once counted all my blessings sincerely. While i outwardly acknowledge the enormity of my luck I have to say the true realization has never come in. I felt very frustrated that i could nt give my parents anything big for their 25th, the levels of frustration reached in the last 2 days are unmeasurable , but hey again come back to ..

What is the point??

There really is no point in going down alleys that ll steer you off your course.. One needs to look at the big picture.. the small blemishes in the map will slowly become the islands which on zooming out will become the archipelago which will then zoom out to become the World map of your life and the path you ve treaded.. I ve said this once and i say it again.. Everything will go the way you want it to go .. The only thing you need to do is keep fighting hard at everyday life throws at you and make the most of whatever you have. I know this is easier said than done.. but remember all good thoughts always come back to you ten fol.. but negativity just stays with you and brings you down. It is difficult to see the bright side. But Remember that in your darkest hour that dawn is just moments away and keep kicking.. For you will definitely rise.  forget the phoenix .. you can out do it and you will .. provided you have the heart and the will..

On News this Day : As usual the world seems to get sillier and sillier.. The lapse rate is rather terrible.. Guess the #kalyug phenomena is here after all.. But in my view this one stood out .. Whatay tone.. People you ve got to respect this.. It takes guts to be a reporter in Pakistan and write in this tone..  Je Salut Mehmal and thank Prem Panicker for beinging this on my timeline.. Pl follow him.. the guy never fails to spill the best onto the timeline.. and the wit.. OMG.. :) Follow him for more details. There was extensive coverage of the Rana Trial by Colin Freeze.. Really awesome stuff.. Mu Ka seems to be gtg used to stay in places other than TN House in Delhi.. and will mostly meet Sonia to ask her to call of the CBI.. but after all that macho talk on the 3rd Anniversary.. i find it hard to see Manmohan playing along.. anyways we ll know more when the CBI responds to the notice of Delhi HC .. Whats more irritating is Harish Salve s taking up the case now.. Anyway .. Paaklaam.. Edhu nadakkumo adhuvum nandraagavae nadakkum.. (what should happen will happen well)  Krishna paramatma in Gitopadesh..  Ok time limits been hit .. Rest in Next .. Vartaaa..

Tamilnadu Elections -2011

The most expected Election Result (Screw Assam, Bengal, Kerala..  Pondicherry is literally tamilnadu with access to multiple brands of liquor without excessive taxation) was announced about 10 days ago and although i started this post on 13th i ve been dilly dallying on it for quite a while..  But yes Amma Won .. and she won in style.. Over so many discussions with friends and Dad on the changing scenario/ Corruption and nepotism charges/ Need for a fresh and ruthless face to represent the Government of Tamil Nadu. Seriously one helluva troublesome period Amma has been through.. While I am the first person to criticize her solitude, coldness to media and anyone that even dares to confront/cntradict her, Hitlee like aura.. One has to frankly Admit the Lady has the brains and the Balls to run the office in a way that it deserves to be run. the first trendsetter towards Victory was the flexibility and ridgidity she showed while forming the alliance. She played Vijaykanth to her strength and has obviously strengthened his Voter base as well.. but onus is on him and legislators from his party to live up to the expectations of people and be a responsible opposition.

Having an opportunity to observe several IAS / IPS Officers in TN during the Several Regimes in my 23 small years of existence..  when Amma is in office these guys work more sincerely and harder. Let us leave Corruption aside as that is a Cancer that has stuck to India and requires radical treatment and not mere short doses of chemo therapy like Anna Hazare.  Maan gaye ki She has been corrupt in the past .. but that has never clouded her judgement in administration and Law and Order.. She follows chanakya and Vithura neethi to the letter and has the Intelligence bureaue working overtime to know the pulse of the people. While I dont like the aspect of falling on the feet .. in case people noticed none of that BS happened this time .. A  traditional namaskaram with few old timers like O. Panneer Selvam bending their backs slightly > 45 degrees.. But You know the Adage “Old Habits Die Hard”.. And did you see the Cabinet .. 29 Graduates .. Seriously man .. That has to be some sort of a new trend.  Lovely to see new faces that will now pick up the administration of the several affairs of the state and take it towards a glorious future ensuring safety, security and prosperity of the wonderful people of TN who used this election to show that only  might is not Right and that they are not idiots to take money/ have chicken biriyani and tasmac quarter and go VOTE for the Rising Son. One irritating scar is the trend of freebies.. 8000 Cr of our hard earned tax money is going into subsidizing people a second/4th Mixie/5th Grinder Free Mangal Suthra /blah blah . One thing i really would love to see is subsidized mandatory domestic power generation/ Consumption/ Optimization Program to ensure Zero wastage of power, Higher Industrial Growth in Sustainable and local industries, Further stregthening and Regularizing NGO’s and SHG’s, Cost Effective utilization of the floor space in that monstrosity on mount road.  Excellent Law and Order with all Government officials on their toes ready to serve people like Aabhath Pandavas.. Efficient governance.. Resolving the Cauvery Delta issue and also the Periyar issue through Cordiality and non political Seddhi bhaath with the no Bakwaas addendum. So many expectations from people and quite a lot of time to fulfill some of them.. ALL THE VERY BEST MADAM :) We hope you bring in all the change that is expected and have enough brownie points to seek a second and third term.

All Mu Ka Bashing Aside

Karunanidhi is a very great leader.. but so was Dhritrashtra of the most famous Mahabharatham.. The only weakness that Mu. Ka hhad was his family.. And members of his family slowly dug the downfall of a great movement started by Periyar, Built by the sacrifices and simple common sense of Annadurai and millions of people who believed that they were going to impact the social scenario , Strengthened further by the Wit and Accumen and that wonderful brain of Mu ka .. only to be destroyed by plain greed and silly Money for Vote policy..

Several Long, Great and wonderful analysis’s have been written on why the DMK failed.. All of which failed to plainly state the obvious.. The deterioration of respect among people for the DMK and the super Dooper Greed and power mongering of Mu Ka’s wonderful Pariwaar, Mu Ka s betrayal and failure to support and protect the several thousand innocent people who were massacared in Northern Lanka. I have known some members of the Mu Ka Parivaar who have been exceedingly kind to me, yet It is only out of love and sincere concern for them that i say this. These 5 years will be choppy, but never lose your heart and mind.. Lose all that extra cash in doing more good.. YES I SAID THAT LOUD.. There simply is no limit for goodness and love..

Mu Ka can probably go and settle down in Thiruvarur pray to thyagaraja bhagawn whom he insulted rather stupidly and carry out Agriculture (of course after making sure kanimozhi is safe and secure and all her money and political credibility and dignity is completely gone) or serious literature rather than witty oneliners and press statements .One major responsibility that Mu Ka can get rid of is finalizing and demarcating Party and Political Reponsibilities within the family. teach the grand children Fundamentals of Covering up the ways of spending money earned from corruption.  I doubt if Mu Ka will attend sessions of the legislature but it ll be fun to see his meetings and interactions with the media.  Jokes apart i feel that complete destruction is always the best way to build up from the bottom.. If Mu ka in his own style can solve the succession problem utilizing the break, Stalin and (amid much hesitation) Azhagiri can bring in a fresh crop of faces to deal with people s issues and bring back the DMK to some strength and repute.. Remember they still have around 23 MPs ( RS and LS included) there is a lot of things that can be done.. Esp now that there is the time.. All that is needed is the will and the Vigour. And the Cadre of DMK have of late become money minded, or the true cadre have been ignored owing to the humongous stupidity and oversight among “leaders” of the party. Say what you want about Azhagiri the Union Minister and MP, but Azhagiri the party General Secretary has enormous energy and control. he has (hopefully) learnt the “thirumangala balam unakku eppoadhaavadhu tharum Amangalam” lesson for life. In an old thamizh movie Goundamani says this dialogue “Hey Money Come today go Tomorrow ya”.

Note To DMK More Goundamani .. less Vadivelu.

Remember that you had and still have the opportunity to gain respect.. Pl Seize it with all your will and work towards success.. This is my message/ request to the DMK.

The World Cup Victory

After So many years of listening to my dad ramble on and on about how he had the privilege of listening to Radio Commentary on the 25th of June 1983 and celebrate by dozing of on the thinnai (sit out) in our house at Srirangam, (Yes It goes without saying my father is a pucca thayir saadham case), this was the one moment that i so wanted to experience. I still am not able to quantify as to how much this meant to me. Now i know that i do not gain anything, other than sheer unadultarated joy of bragging about the fact that Team India are now World Champions. Of Course TOI has a very weird way of coining headlines like THE WORLD AT OUR FEET. Gosh whoever coins headlines for ToI is i m pretty convinced he/she is a piece of work. But hey lets get back to the point. I was banned from watching the match at the apartment, so we watched it in lab (live streaming, Thank god for the internet and Thank ICC for scheduling the match on a Saturday). I was so sure that India had a great chance of winning the World Cup this time around as everyone has been performing brilliantly, Even our Sreeshanth has shown shades of brilliance in SA.. Pl tell me you remember that Kallis vaala Bouncer if not watch it here . Gary Kirsten, Paddy upton all these guys have brought around a sea of change, and in a country where due credit is often misplaced, I really cherish the fact that without any exception all the players attributed the success to the difference brought about by Gary Kirsten. I really expect the GOI to award the Dronacharya to him :) My grandmother has always told me that he who is indebted and respectful to the teacher can never fail. Well Paati its a pity you could’nt see this.. I m sure you d have called up to say “Paaru da, Sachin epdi aanandha kanneer vidaraan nu” :)

That being said this team completely deserved to be called World Champions.. Now Siddhu in the post match analysis show did say that team India had captained the mother ship which is Test Cricket as well. Wierdo that he is i still have got to say that his enthusiasm, and vocabulary never ceases to amaze me. and have posted impressive wins all over the world. Pick a place on the map with some Cricketing history/relevance, Team India’s been there and won there. Now I am that guy that agrees with Ricky Ponting that this game is not about individuals, So this Win it for Sachin BS I will not buy… However I will concede to the fact that If anyone deserves to end (strictly on the WC front.. Keep playing Test Cricket and ODI whenever you feel like teaching Bowlers some humility) on a high note It is Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.. Whaddaplayaaa!!! A true Champion and one of the greatest if not, The Greatest ambassador of the game. I am so privileged that i have been born in the right time to watch, Enjoy, Learn from ,Celebrate and Appreciate the Maestro’s skill with the willow and his grace on the Social side. When Ian Chappell wrote this I m sure he did nt have the hind sight that he would suffer from a severe bout of foot in the mouth.

And Dhoni.. how do i even start.. This guy’s Demeanor and icy cool attitude in a nation where most people are content wearing their heart in their sleeve and emoting so rapidly.. Boy what a difference he has brought to this side.. However I cannot bring myself to saying Dhoni is the Best Captain India has had. This i say because of his erratic selection of players and also the tendency to gamble too much (joginder on the final over/ Nehra/ Chawla/ OMG I am going to stop right here). Most of all i hat that Well Of Course line.. Man Someone’s gotta teach him. To me Kapil, Azhar and Dada are also very great Captains. They (most importantly Dada) gave India a generation of players. I will not say that Luck plays a role in Dhoni’s Captaincy, It is more than evident that he is a very lucky man. T-20 WC, Test Rank 1 for a year, (When dhoni came into the scene i hardly thought he could play test cricket), Champions League, IPL , Now the World Cup.. Gosh Kapil’s in great company and it works bothways :) . BTW there was recently a full documentary in Bengali on Start Cricket on Dada called Warrior prince, which kinda pissed me off majorly because most of the talking was in bengali and star cricket decided to do away with subtitles. People should check it out. Dada s dad takes pot shots at people who scored lesser than him not being handed retirement options.

Ashwin, Raina, Plaha, Yuvi (What a comeback!!! This guy is here to Stay, and i sincerely hope he does’nt slack of like he did after those six sixers), Munaf, Nehra, Chawla (Especially for the #Chawlahasstillbeenadisaster and the mental strength tag on twitter), Sree…….shant (sorry fingers got jammed while attempting to type this) for being a great water boy as well as the teary performance after the slapgate as well as WC Win, Kohli, Gambhir, All of you guys have done well and deserve to enjoy this moment. Although some of you should be kind enough to take a leaf out of bill gates and SRT’s book and learn to give back  to the society that so adores you also in terms of superb and consistent performances both on and off field.

This enormous victory is so important to me, personally, as well as to all of us Cricket Crazy Junta. In spite of not being invited to the night long Celebrations at the Taj Mahal or to witness MSD’s Mottai adithal vaendudhal, We are now renewed with further enthu to continue supporting and celebrating Team India and all the brands they endorse.  From now on My Fan Orient PSP-O, Shoes Adidas/Reebok, Soda – McDowells, Hair Oil- Max Lubricants, Petrol- Speed, Fairness cream – Fair and Lovely, Phone-Maxx Mobiles, bike- TVS Discover, TV – Soony Bravia, Soap- Mysore Sandal, .. Dhoni cd you spare some cash.. This list is just overly exhaustive!

Its been some time since my  last post, so i ll keep this short. I have been spending time at the National Chemical Laboratory at Pune to try and get some experiments done, for my M.Tech Project. In these 45 days I have had loadsa fun courtesy some very very good friends at Pune. Pushkar, Ketan Fazal, Rahul and Chethan.. Thanks a Ton :-) I owe you guys big time for all your kindness, and I am coming back on July 19th.I had fun trying to cook, especially mastered the sacred art of making Rotis sans oil and also the workout of kneading atta. The exquisite art of butchering Vegetables, and the above mentioned skills can be a life saver, even if your Rotis can be used as pieces of a jigsaw puzzle of the world map. :D

I did catch some “wonderful” movies. To begin with Kites, POP Sands of Time, Raajneeti and Raavan, and had i stayed coupla days more we could have watched Karan Johar’s piece d’ Resistance I hate Luv Story’s. Reviews of those movie have been plentiful and colourful, hence i refrain from adding more E-Waste.

I got to spend time with my cousin Vishaal in Mumbai, just one weekend, where we caught Raavan together, courtesy HSBC. Met a fun group in Komala Chithi, Chithra Chithi, Rishabh and Nishadh, dinner at Mc D’s and lunch at Matunga’s old famous Mani’s Cafe with blissful Paalpaayasam, and then back to pune after giving the exam for Vizag Steel.

We went for a trek in the hills at Paashaan and got to see Avinash Bhosale’s fleet of helicopters in his front lawn, went for a drive half way to Lonawala just to eat at Dhaba Apsara (Tony Da Dhaba), so on and so forth.

I was starting to feel slightly homesick when along came the day i’d planned to return and Pushkar was kind enough to drop me off at the station at 3.35 AM, and then the old and boring Mumbai Chennai mail. (DO NOT take this train) and just when i was tight asleep at around 3 AM in the morning woke up with a song, sorry Master piece of Sri Ilayaraja “Swargamae Endraalum.. Adhu Namma oora poala Varuma” and believe me when i say this I had just crossed in from AP into TN. I was 5 min away from Tiruthani Station. One may go here and One may go there, but there’s NO PLACE like HOME or in my case INSTI :D Looking forward to spend some quality time with my Family, and then it’s back to the city of Poonawalla. :)

Puthaandu-pudhiya-paadhai-kalaignar-uyir-kaapeedu-thittam

Iniya Thamizh Puthaandu Nal Vaazhthukkal :-) Yes for me this is the thamizh puthaandu day, I will not accept the silly GO.

There are several wonderful schemes that have been introduces under the leadership of the present day Chief Minister, Dr. M. Karunanidhi.. Well some of them have helped people, but most of them have merely padded the dockets of his family members.. however i have no doubts about the way Manirathnam portrays Kalaignar in his movie, Iruvar. Kalaignar is a legendary politician, who simply wants to be the best CM ever in our country, and I will say that he is an excellent politician, extremely astute and very very affable and easily accessible to all people, party men or otherwise. For his age if he is able to put in 16-18 hours a day even simply to sign papers, and files , that shows his greatness.. however as it is the duty of every citizen in a democracy to play an active role in questioning the Governments functioning, as well as the several “schemes” meant to benefit society.

I will buy the schemes as Uzhavar Sandhai, Samathuvapuram, and the recent allocation for people with special abilities, these are schemes that have been greatly accepted by all, yet owing to certain black aspects of governance, have not really lived up to the promises made when initiated. This Government claims so many numerous welfare measures for the people, yet it so so so SHAMELESSLY defers to money distribution, and gift showering to win all of its 10 by elections, such that i even fearr what ll happen if there is a full fledged election for all the 239 Constituencies. This money talks approach of MK is shocking.. i mean if he really trusts his schemes and popularity with people then why resort to such cheap and insidious methods, which cast a great pall over his illustrious political career. In particular i would like to focus on his health insurance scheme for the poor people, which covers costs towards critical care of heart and other important organs, with the promise of special protection for the economically backward.. sounds good does’nt it??  .. in fact even noble.. ( I really think attacking the free colour TV Scheme will make my mind drop to the lowest levels in finding obscenities to fire the government with, this being new years day i refrain from that biggie) A Government that takes care of its people WOW!!! and recent claims state that at least 2 lakh poor people have benefited from this scheme. but i d like to express my opinion on the scheme. beforehand i would like to declare that, all this is subsequent to a long conversation with a doctor, and i have not got any documented proof through the RTI. :-) .

So yes this scheme provides health insurance cover, for the poor people, but the question is why should it give the responsibility of caring to the Private sector hospitals?? Who are in the business mainly for profits, and may be to increase the standards of health care in India. After all nowadays India is a big player in the health tourism sector, coming second only to Thailand. This question really stumps me.. most of these doctors in the private sector have been trained by the Government College teachers, who double up as doctors at the Government hospitals. My Cousin who is an excellent doctor told me that there was no point in giving this to the private sector, rather the government could have subsidised their hospitals, and got doctors from the private sector to contribute in countering the overwhelming volume, for an appropriate salary. by subsidise i imply that the Government hospitals should be modernized and they should expand all departments, and they should still be able to provide the same standards as private hospitals, and more training would be available for the budding doctors during their residency period.

Is it that the insurance company wanted to operate only with the private sector, fearing threat of corruption and poor record keeping, standards of hygiene, poor post operative care, and general lack of responsibility and accountability in caring of the staff in government hospitals, or is it that they are cozying up to the private sector for their ability to overcharge??

Rumour has it that the private hospitals in the network, kick back a certain part of the government subsidy to be identified as able enough hospital to manage the patient volume as well as different levels of health problems, read as health complications. if this is the case the government is making a terrible mistake, even if it helps the people. one should never misappropriate peoples money..

Anyways I have been told that the standards in Government hospitals are very poor.. We can know that by most members of the government going to private hospitals, to get admitted either before enquiry commissions, or owing to real health problems. Why even Dr.MK visits Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute for his treatment rather than the government college.. what does this say? They thrust these institutions for people below them, but would not go there!!!.. My bet is once these politicians go to the government hospitals, that will automatically improve standards in the government hospital.. I am also terribly upset over the lack of immediate action on all those idiot who sold drugs that expired. left to me this fellow s offence warrants any Taliban level punishment, and the government plans to ask the CBI to take over?? Bofors is still being investigated, does nt thus speak of the agency’s efficiency?? . Surely in special circumstances as this and the Mumbai tragedy we should throw away “We are a nation of laws” punch line..

I pray to GOD to bless my Country, by bringing a certain measure of responsibility, accountability, and even concern for and toward the people, especially those who have suffered the most, and i ask him to begin this with my state, and also i hope this time around CSK does well at the IPL, and also I pray for the good health and welfare of all people, near and dear to me, in fact even for those i so despise.. :-)

Cricket and IPL — Love It? or Hate it!!! (Part I)

Indian Premier League.. An Entity that is touted to be the strongest competitor to worldwide sport events as Motorsport (F1) and Soccer with particular reference to the English Premier League, and other European Football league’s, is the first attempt at promoting the “Gentlemen’s Game” Cricket. Of course I love Cricket and follow it quite closely, in particular the great innings’s from Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar the blitzkreig knocks of the Bowler demolishing Sehwag, the consistence and  the pinpoint precision bowling of bowlers like bond,Bollinger,Mc grath the tricky and wily spin acts of Warne, Kumble the turbanator, and the part i love the best, the fantastic employment of the Lovely English Language to describe all these acts by the wonderful Harsha Bhogle, Geoffery Boycott and Tony Greig. The historic moments of the game and the most famous rivalries as India Vs Pakistan, India Vs Australia and last but not the least the Legendary Ashes, am sure add to the character of and Bring Joy and Sorrow to so many people who are blessed enough to witness these wonderful moments of excellence in Cricket (My dad slapped me once for saying India will lose in the final of NATWEST series in Lord’s).

Coming back to IPL. I simply have to agree that the claims made for the promotion of such  an event are indeed legitimate and some of them are being met, such as the promotion of the game at a never before seen scale, bringing the Cricketing fraternity closer together, identifying local talent and promoting it, and my favourite is allowing all sorts of permutation and Combinations of Cricketers to collide head on with each other, I mean who would imagine Kumble getting to challenge Sachin, and Harbhajan slapping Sreeshanth (I ‘ m sure the entire world wants to slap Sreeshanth though), Murli getting rid of Sangaakkara, Dilshan and all the other good batsmen from SLC, before this league. Yes it does make cricket more fun to watch, and competitive in an all together new way. I have’nt mentioned the Cheerleaders,as I think they are better of in promoting high School and College games, in the US of course, personally i find them to be fine eye candy.

The IPL first of has too much money in it .. if its one thing that one can understands from the functioning of the world, MONEY=POWER, and is we have learnt something from history, Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Absolutely Corrupts.. and this law has no exceptions at all. The money shows how much potential there is in promoting Cricket domestically as well as the potential for self sustainability of Cricket in India. The fact that Crickets popularity has eclipsed the national game Hockey, as well as the sports in which India has struggled to make a mark in the international, through Individual pursuit of Excellence such as Bindra for Rifle Shooting, Anju George in Athletics and of course the pugilists in Boxing, hangs strong on the Indian Sports. Indian sport has failed severely to promote sports in the right way, and so have the sportsmen by prioritizing money and individual glory than Collective Glory for the Country. This money does give it enough leverage to manipulate all other sporting bodies, and even in Charity Cricket appears to be condescending, for instance the donation by BCCI and SRK to the hockey team to overcome the lock down that so demoralized all the fans, of our National game.

BCCI now manipulates even the ICC in events that shock us, for example the over throwing of Bucknor, just because he appeared a bit prejudicial against Sachin, the Darrel hair incident, and also the Racial abuses against Symonds by Harbhajan and the Indian fans. now i do not know if Aussies deserve any special treatment as they are simply the most worst behaved on field and are known well for their attempts at sledging. however it simply is not fair that only money should make us look powerful, and get us ridiculed behind our back. look at the selection procedure for the national team, why have we not seen Naman Ojha and Murli Vijay on the selection lists,  before they put themselves on full display in this cash strapped league.

I hat to think of it that Lalit Modi came up with this idea, the practise of pitting the greats from different countries came up very very early.. one can simply say that he just lifted a leaf from the book of Soccer. The manner in which the BCCI Crushed the Indian Cricket League which was the first attempt at truly addressing development of Cricket in the 2nd tier and 3rd tier towns. The organising body had even promised that the players who shine in the ICL would automatically be allowed to prioritize National Cricket than the money earning League. A wonderful gesture that showed true intentions of promotion of this popular sport. however what did ICL get in return, ostracization of all its cricketers from even the domestic leagues, and the state cricket associations, the public humiliation of the first greatest cricketer from the Sub continent Shri Kapil Dev, as well as the complete shut down of the league.

The IPL has employed the Tactic of bedding Bollywood for a partner, which to me seems despicable to me.. I also detest the Idea that people who know absolutely nothing about the game should nt be involved with this .. even though they bring money, as for fans.. i’d still like to believe that people come to watch the game for its fame, and not the dame.Money and Sport should always be kept apart, for the good of the sport. I am not against Cricketers making obscene amounts of money, for ever since witnessing a match in person i know how difficult it is to stand in the hot sun amidst all that noise, and still play so well. They completely deserve it. but one should note that success tends to make it all the way upto the head, so i always suggest that along with a good package, Cricketers should also be given numerous benefits as Physical, mental and moral conditioning.

Urban Legend– Thanks to Watson

In Cambridge, they tell the following story about Maxwell: Maxwell
was lecturing and, seeing a student dozing off, awakened him, asking,
“Young man, what is electricity?” “I’m terribly sorry, sir,” the
student replied, “I knew the answer but I have forgotten it.”
Maxwell’s response to the class was, “Gentlemen, you have just
witnessed the greatest tragedy in the history of science. The one
person who knew what electricity is has forgotten it.”
